Issues
Katy has always stood up when it mattered most–whether it was taking the reins of her family business, fighting for and passing legislation to protect women from violence, or founding Leading Kansas to demand accountability in government. This campaign is no different. While Ron Estes protects party power in Washington, DC–ripping apart our way of life by allowing the costs of health care, groceries, and gas to skyrocket, rural hospitals to close, and family farms to shut down, all the while giving tax breaks to corporations and the wealthy–Katy is running to represent the people of Kansas, who for too long have been shut out of the very government that is supposed to serve them.
Katy will work to ensure access to quality, affordable healthcare for all. When Katy was in middle school, her oldest sister was diagnosed with schizophrenia — and her family has navigated the challenges of mental health care ever since. Her mom still helps care for her sister to this day. Katy knows firsthand how hard it is for families to find affordable, accessible mental health services. As a business owner, she’s seen firsthand how skyrocketing insurance premiums make it harder every year to provide good coverage for workers. She is running to make sure Washington starts treating healthcare like the priority it is for families across Kansas.
As a business owner, Katy knows what rising costs mean in practice. Small businesses are dealing with tighter margins and increased costs, and the wages hardworking Kansans earn aren’t rising and don’t go as far as they used to. But unfortunately, politicians like Ron Estes and his friends in D.C. keep prioritizing big giveaways to billionaire corporations and powerful CEOs instead of making real investments in the working folks powering our economy. Katy will stand up for working people, small businesses, and families, find common ground with anyone willing to lower taxes on working Kansans, and bring both parties to the table to drive costs down.
Kansas farmers are being sold out – Katy has heard it directly from her friends and neighbors who make rural Kansas great. The reason isn’t a mystery. Reckless tariff policies have handed our markets to foreign competitors, devalued Kansas agricultural products, and cut off the buyers our farmers have relied on for generations, while the War with Iran has jacked up fertilizer and diesel costs at the worst possible time. Washington made promises to our farm families and broke them. Katy will fight to reverse the tariff giveaways that are strangling Kansas agriculture, work across party lines to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the War with Iran, and fight the large-scale industrial encroachment and pesticide deregulation that threaten the health of rural Kansans.
With the rise of AI, more and more Kansas workers are concerned about their jobs and their futures. Katy believes America needs to lead, innovate and embrace progress, but we cannot do without ensuring protections for the workers and families that progress is supposed to benefit. In DC, Katy will bring both parties together to ensure the future of AI is a job creator, not a job killer.
When Katy was a kid, the internet was a utopian exchange of information and global connections. However, decades of little regulation and the absence of guardrails have turned the internet into a dangerous rabbit hole of misinformation and data collection. Katy will champion legislation to protect the privacy of people online–especially our youth–so that tech giants cannot endlessly mine users’ personal data to serve their own ends.
Katy believes in the simple Kansas values of fairness, accountability, and keeping your word. When she was fourteen years old, she sat with her father late one night and he told her: “In order to protect our freedoms for future generations, we all have to be willing to sacrifice.” She has thought about those words a lot lately – about what kind of country her own children will inherit, and what it means to step up when it matters. It is one of the reasons she is running. That means respecting the Constitution, protecting our fundamental rights, and upholding the rule of law. Katy will defend the checks and balances that protect our freedoms and ensure that Congress does its job — because strong institutions and honest leadership are the foundations of good government.
